• HISTORY

    Puppetworks Animation Studio is a Budapest-based digital animation studio. Founded in 2009 by a team of highly-talented Hungarian 3D artists, Puppetworks has grown into an international studio of 100+ artists from 12 different countries dedicated to creating high-quality 3D media.

    Since its inception, Puppetworks has become renowned for the striking visual content it has produced for feature films, television, games, advertising and integrated media. To date, the studio has completed over 50 animated projects with the bulk of these projects being associated with names such as BBDO, Eset, Ubisoft, Microsoft and Riot Games.

    More recently, Puppetworks has begun to develop its own ideas into transmedia concepts with the studio's primary focus being the family genre. The first of these concepts to be realized is “The Tale of Momonga,” an animated feature project currently in the pre-production and funding stage.

    Frantisek Ambrus , Founder & CEO.
    Frantisek is a sculptor artist and a veteran graphic designer who has the creative mind to dream the future and the business acumen to make it happen. He previously founded and ran the concept art outsource company 3Mages, with studios in Budapest and Bratislava, now part of Puppetworks Studios.

    Ashraf E. Hassan , Founder & VFX supervisior.
    Ashraf is a veteran 3D artist and CG Supervisor with a wide range of technical and artistic skills. He oversees all aspects of animation and visual effects production at Puppetworks.

    The Puppetworks creative team, consisting of veterans with 20+ years of professional experience in cartoon animation as well as young talent with exceptional skills in 3D character animation, is truly international in scope with in-house artists from around the globe.

  • TECHNOLOGY

    The Puppetworks animation workflow is built around Autodesk Maya though we can handle projects on other platforms via conversion tools.

    Our lighting and rendering pipeline is based on Maya, Houdini & Arnold. We use proprietary C++ plugins as well as custom shaders to produce the most sophisticated outputs for our Nuke compositing pipeline. All the elements are rendered on our HP Renderfarm via customized render management.

    Puppetworks has a number of in-house tools we have developed over the years. We have custom plugins and scripts under various platforms. We also use Houdini software to generate high-level visual effects procedurally. Our tools can implement breaking, crushing, cloth and hair simulation, as well as high-level atmospheric effects like fog, smoke and fire.

    We use our own production workflow management software that fits our pipeline's specific needs.

    Puppetworks provides digital production services for feature films, television, games, advertising and integrated media. Our pipeline includes the creation of concept art, illustration, storyboarding, matte painting, 3D modeling and texturing, rigging, 3D animatics, keyframe & motion capture animation, 3D effects, lighting, rendering, matchmoving and compositing.
